Just do it!

There is a jungle of requirements and guidelines about how we should design buildings, products, services and technology so that they can be used by everyone. So many that the words “universal design” can make anyone short of breath. And plagued with eternal guilt.

We want to do something about that! That is why we have developed the magazine “Museums for All.”

Through encounters with people and examples of accessibility projects from museums all over Norway, our goal is to turn feelings of powerlessness into inspiration, and lower the threshold for getting started.

We are especially addressing those of you who don’t quite know which end to start at. This is not a handbook, nor an exhaustive source of solutions. It is an introduction to a way of thinking, as much a societal ideal as a design principle. It is about creating generous societies where everyone can participate on equal terms.

Currently, the magazine only exists in Norwegian, but we are in the process of seeking funding for an English translation.

Let us inspire you!

Are you planning a seminar or a workshop about Universal design? We can help you plan an inspiring event, with great talks, panel discussions and hands-on exercises. We can also help develop an accessibility strategy, including how to communicate it.

Reference.

“Oslo Museum has had an inspiring collaboration with Felix Media through Marianne Alfsen, who clearly is passionate about creating a more inclusive society.

We are impressed by how she has familiarized herself with the museum sector’s challenges and potential. Based on this, her presentations have been greatly inspirational, with examples that have been credible and relevant.

For the museum’s staff meeting, she helped plan a training day with thought-provoking practical exercises.

Marianne has also inspired Oslo Museum’s front-line staff in a dedicated session. She is an accomplished speaker, seminar facilitator, and discussion leader.”

An inclusive society.

In Felix Media we use communication and storytelling as tools for change. We specialise in Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.

Our aim is to increase knowledge of accessibility and universal design as both a design principle and a societal ideal, and to inspire more people to contribute to meaningful change.

We create spaces that help shift organisations from a compliance-driven approach to a genuine commitment to removing barriers, and support them in turning intentions intoaction.

We work across sectors, with particular insight into the museum sector.

It seemed impossible, but up they went: Annett Garvik and Tove Mostrøm, operations manager at Havrå Cluster Farm. “I’ve wanted to visit Havrå for many years, museum nerd that I am. But I never thought I would actually get the chance,” says Garvik. (Photo: Fredrik Naumann)

Funding.

The magazine “Museums for All" was produced with a grant from the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs (Bufdir).
